The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the opposition Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has raised the alarm over threat to the life of it’s National Secretary, Mr Babatunde Francis Alli.
This was contained in a press statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Abdul Gombe and made available to journalists on Monday in Abuja.
The statement reads, “The attention of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has been drawn to unwarranted threats to its National Secretary, Mr. Babatunde Francis Alli, for lawful discharge of his duties. He was threatened with bodily harm for signing the recent NEC Circular cautioning state chairpersons of the Party against attending a secret meeting purportedly summoned by the Party’s BoT Chairman without the knowledge or clearance of the Party’s NEC.
“The PRP NEC wishes to express its displeasure at the unwarranted threats to the life of its National Secretary from some Party members from Kaduna State, namely, Kassim Balarabe Musa and Shamsuddeen Umar.
“Pursuant to this, NEC has mandated the National Secretary to pursue legal means of seeking protection and possible redress from the said party members.”
It also stated that the attention of the PRP NEC has also been drawn to the activities of certain party members who have formed the criminal habit of going round the country parading themselves as national officers of the PRP. These impostors include specifically the person of one, Musa Lawan, who has been posing as Acting National Secretary.
According to the statement, “The same persons are alleged to be ventilating grievances that should be settled using recognised processes for such, available within the party.
“As a result the PRP NEC has mandated its officials to seek means of ensuring an end to the disturbing report of the activities of what may best be described as “impostors”.
“The “impostors” are advised to stop their activities and seek resolution of any grievances within the fold of the party.
The electoral and political party umpire, INEC, is being hereby alerted to the nefarious activities of these characters and called upon to take necessary steps as sanctioned by the laws governing its operations.
”Party operatives at all levels are also hereby notified of these developments for their cautionary discretion.”
