The National Security Adviser, Major General Babagana Monguno stated this when he paid a courtesy visit to Governor Zulum in Maiduguri on Thursday.
General Monguno was in Maiduguri to condole with the Government and people of Borno State over the unfortunate attacks by the Boko Haram insurgents in recent days, where several people were killed.
Monguno was accompanied by the minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Sadiya Umar Farouq, DG National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Chairman Senate committee on Army, Sen. Mohamed Ali Ndume, Chairman Senate committee on special duties, Sen. Yusuf A. Yusuf, and the Chairman House committee on NEDC Hon Hadiza Bukar Abba.
“Your Excellency, Mr. President specifically asked that I come with my colleagues to symphatise and condole you and the very good people of Borno State, and to reassure you that he will not relent in his determination to overcome this challenges.” Monguno said.
“Mr. President personally recognizes your Excellency in one year that you have been the Executive Governor of Borno State. The amount of effort you have put in dealing with this situation, you have been a source of inspiration to all the people of Borno State. You have undertaken so many visit to Abuja to find ways in which the Government of Borno State and the security agencies can collaborate, work together to defeat these criminals.” Monguno said.
“Your Excellency, we also motivated by the show of concern from the Government of Borno State under your leadership. We want to assure you that Mr. President has directed us to review our strategy with a view to bringing to an end this situation in which our people in Borno find themselves.” Monguno said.
In her remark, the minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Sadiya Umar Farouq informed Governor Zulum that the delegation apart from the condolences has also delivered humanitarian support to the victims of insurgency attacks, she added that surveillance vehicles were presented to the armed forces and ambulance and medical equipment to the federal health facilities in the northeast region.
Responding, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum commended President Muhammadu Buhari for the renewed commitment to end the insurgency in the northeast region.
“Let me on behalf of the people, and The government of Borno State convey our deep appreciation to the federal government under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari and indeed this August delegation for sympathizing with us over the killing of innocent souls in Borno State.”
“Government of Borno State and indeed the people of Borno are overwhelmed with the renewed effort that has been made by Mr. President to end the insurgency.” Zulum said.
“It’s our sincere belief that this administration will do everything possible to bring to an end this dastard attitude by the insurgents.” Zulum said.
