…Laments failure to provide food for the masses
The opposition People’s Redemption Party (PRP) has, true to its radical pedigree, embarked on a landmark legal challenge attacking cruel handling of the COVID19 pandemic by the Nigerian Government as the pandemic rages on throughout the globe.
PRP National Chairman, Malam Falalu Bello DanMasanin Zazzau this morning (Monday June 22/Zhul Qiidah 1st) announced that the party had briefed lawyers to sue the Federal Government and the Kaduna State Government.
A legal team briefed by the PRP and led by Barrister Jibril Dogo, had been asked “to file the Suit against the Federal and Kaduna State Governments as Defendants” seeking a reversal and various reliefs for what the PRP believed was an unreasonable oppression of the Nigerian masses The PRP is known as the only Nigerian political party with a history of defending and promoting the interests of Nigeria’s downtrodden “talakawa”, peasants and artisans in its over 40 years of existence.
PRP has maintained a distinctly pro poor stance since set up in 1978, then under the leadership of late Talakawa Champion and Leader Malam Aminu Kano of blessed memory, a tradition kept alive by PRP National Leader, octogenarian first elected civilian Governor of Kaduna state, Malam Abdulkadir Balarabe Musa. The radical politician is now the Party’s Board of Trustees Chairman.
In his statement this morning, Malam Balarabe Musa’s political godson, PRP National Chairman Falalu Bello lamented what he referred to as imprisonment of Nigerians “without feeding them”, as the Federal and State Governments invoked the Quarantine Act to force people to stay at home without adequate arrangements for any feeding support.
Majority of Nigerians live below the poverty line and thus have to go out to work to earn enough to sustain themselves and their families on a day to day basis.
The decision to specifically sue the Federal Government, on behalf of the disenfranchised Nigerian masses, “was because it locked up some States and the FCT while “Kaduna State locked up Kaduna continuously for 2 months at great pain to the citizens“.
According to PRP’s Malam Falalu Bello, “the Suit filed in the Federal High Court Abuja has been assigned to Court 11 and comes up next Friday 26th June 2020“. Even as Nigeria and Africa fortunately defy the earlier gloomy projections by the World Health Organisation (WHO) of humongous cases of infection, the PRP had in its recent widely publicized public statement cautioned on handling of the COVID19 by the Nigerian Government, at all levels.
The full statement signed by PRP National Chairman Malam Falalu Bello: “Morning Ladies and Gentlemen, “You may please recall that in our last Press Release on Covid-19, we have said that we were going to sue the Government to test whether a Government can use the Quarantine Laws to lock people up day and night (which is practically imprisonment) without feeding them as the Federal and most State Governments did.
“I, on behalf of the Party briefed Barr. Jibril Dogo who has so far represented the Party on Kaduna matter (at first hearing and appeal) to file the Suit against the Federal and Kaduna State Governments as Defendants. The choice of Federal Government was because it locked up some States and the FCT and Kaduna State locked up Kaduna continuously for 2 months at great pain to the citizens.
